Pumice Pits

The pumice pits is a great place to ride that is close to Idaho Falls. There isn't really trails here but just a fun area to go out and play around. There is lots of hills to climb, whoops, jumps, berms, and just fun play around riding. We love to come up her after work or if we just have a couple of hours to kill. Its nice because its only about ten minutes from Idaho Falls. Be careful when you are riding here until you get used to the area because there is lots of cliffs and sudden drops that could be dangerous if you don't know where they are. We usually like to come out here when it is still too cold in the mountains because there is usually less snow. We just went today 3-9-13 and it was still a little too snow covered, probably another week or so and it will be great. If you are looking for some good climbs close to home this  is the place for you.

Here is the GPS to get to the pumice pits, if you need to download the gps file just click on the link above the map and it will take you to a site where you can download it. Enjoy!

Thanks for checking out Idaho Dirt Bike. Our goal for this site is to provide the best dirt bike trail source for Idaho. As we really started getting into dirt biking we looked and looked for sources for trail reviews, maps, directions, pictures, and info but found very little. After riding lots in 2012 we decided that we needed to put together this blog and become the source of information that we looked for. We hope that we can provide what people are wanting and that you will be patient because this will be a work in progress. We are all new to blogging and site building so if you have suggestions that will make the site more helpful please leave comments, this is for you and anything we can do to make it work for you we want to know about.
Our Pans:
The things that we will be adding to the site coming riding season 2013 will be videos, pictures, GPS coordinates, and of course lots more reviews. We will be adding reviews through this winter while waiting for riding season to come. These reviews wont have any pictures, video, or GPS at this time but  I promise they will get added in the spring. We are also working on getting some maps put together that we are going to sell, I am unsure when these will be ready but stay tuned. We want to make sure that you have all the information you need when riding and give you some great ideas on destination rides.

Hawley Gulch/ Wolverine Creek

Well I guess I will start out with one of our favorite trails. I unfortunately don't have any pictures of the trail because we decided to start this blog after the riding season. I will put some up as soon as I get some this spring. This trail is a great trail that almost anyone can ride. It is an atv trail so it is nice and wide. We really like this trail for lots of reasons, its close, it can be a great after work ride, its fast and has great flow. These trails have a little bit of everything but in a little bit more mild package. One thing that you do have to be careful of on this trail is other traffic. This is a very popular trail there are usually lots of other riders on here, especially on a weekend.
Getting There: Head East on Hwy 26 towards Ririe, turn left at N.160 E., the same way as getting to Kelly Canyon. Turn Right on Heise Rd. continue on this paved road until you pass the ski resort, after the ski resort the road will turn into a dirt road, take the dirt road until you get to a fork, at this fork is a a nice big parking lot and is where we usually unload. To get to the trail head follow the dirt road on the right going towards table rock campground. Hawley Gulch 4276 will be on the left just before you get to table rock campground. See trail map at bottom of page.
The Hawley Gulch trail 4276 is fairly short but is a fun little trail, it has some great corners, a short loose rock section followed by a little climb around a couple of u turns. After these u's the trail gets fast, it is fairly straight from here until the junction to get to Wolverine Creek. There is a few whoops that you should watch out for because if your not ready for them and you are going really fast they can catch you off guard, but if your looking for them they can be really fun little jumps. After this short fast section you will cross a cattle guard, the trail forks left or right, left takes you up to Kelly Canyon road 40218, right will put you on Look Out Mountain trail 4131. Look Out Mountain trail is more of a connection trail to get over to Wolverine Creek, but is worth the little jaunt to the top if you have never been up there. To get to the top you just stay straight when you have the option of turning left. You will know when you are there because the trail doesn't go any farther and you will have a great view of the valley below. We usually don't go up there much any more because once you have seen it you've seen it and the trail to get up there isn't as fun as riding Wolverine Creek. Look Out Mountain trail to the fork of road 40885 cold springs road is really short but is usually pretty bumpy and water trenched. You can cary pretty good speed through here but be careful because some of the water ruts are pretty deep and can suck you in, especially in the spring. When you get to the fork and take a left, although this is a road I have only seen a car on it once, it isn't a very well maintained road feel more like an atv trail when you are riding on it, just a little wider. You will follow this cold springs road for about a mile until you can take right. You have now made it to Wolverine Creek 4292/ 4082, this is where the ride gets really fun. Wolverine has lots of sharp burmed corners, whoop jumps, a few creek crossings, little climbs and descents, fast straights, fast s turns, and a short loose rock section at the end. There is a few trails that shoot off of Wolverine that are fun but I will talk about them in their own postings. Wolverine Creek pops out at the South Fork Snake road 40206 right on the river. When we get done we usually like to take the same way back, the trail is even more fun going up.
The Red path is the trail and the yellow arrow is pointing at the parking lot. If you use a GPS you can download this map from the link on the right of the page for the Parks and Recreation website.
